What should Trump do regarding Syria chemical weapon attack?

The United States plans to call for a UN Security Council vote on Tuesday on a proposal for a new inquiry into responsibility for use of chemical weapons in Syria after reports of a poison gas attack on a rebel-held town, diplomats said.

While it is still unclear who is responsible for the apparent attack, Mr Trump told reporters at a cabinet meeting that he was working with military leaders to determine whether Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, Russia or Iran were responsible or jointly responsible.

But Hurd said if differences over Syria lead to a direct military battle between Russia and the United States, Russia would not fare well. "Probably after the fact".

Trump spoke to France's President Emmanuel Macron for the second time in two days over the alleged attacks, with the pair expressing a "desire for a firm response from the global community to these new violations of the chemical weapons ban", according to the Elysee Palace.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday that Moscow will not accept "provocation and speculation" around the latest suspected chemical weapons attack in Syria, the Kremlin said. Yeah, he may. And if he does, it's going to be very tough.

He added, "Everybody's going to pay a price. He will. Everybody will".

Further, asked directly if military force is on the table as an option, Trump said that all options are on the table. That the attack comes at a time when a possible deal was being brokered by Russian Federation between Assad's government and the rebels means that violence, in all likelihood, will continue. A Navy destroyer, the USS Donald Cook, was underway in the eastern Mediterranean after completing a port call in Cyprus.

In April a year ago, Trump launched a cruise missile strike against a Syrian air base after a previous chemical weapons attack United Nations monitors later pinned on Bashar al-Assad's regime.

"What's meant is a provocation using chemical weapons by terrorists who might possess these substances" or the spreading of stories of such an attack, Peskov said.

Since 2012, Israel has struck inside Syria more than 100 times, mostly targeting suspected weapons' convoys destined for the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which has been fighting alongside Syrian government forces. "To me there's not much of a doubt, but the generals will figure it out", Trump said.

"This is about humanity - it can't be allowed to happen", he said.

"I think that it is outrageous to say that the President of the United States greenlit something as atrocious as the actions that have taken place over the last couple of days", Sanders said.

Mattis, in separate remarks at the Pentagon, also suggested Moscow bore some blame.

"Russia is being unpardonably threatened", Nebenzia said.

He said that it was too early to judge because "no one has exhaustive information" and no investigation has been carried out, although Russian Federation has already sent military experts to the scene.

"If it's Russian Federation, if it's Syria, if it's Iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out", he said.

The two leaders "strongly condemned the horrific chemical weapons attacks in Syria", according to a White House summary, and they "agreed to exchange information" on the attacks and "coordinate a strong, joint response".

Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said she is looking forward to the Security Council voting on the resolution proposed by the US.

An American official said the USA was discussing with allies whether they would participate in a retaliatory strike.
