Russian Federation says United States should not be 'global policeman'

Russian Federation says United States should not be 'global policeman'

President Donald Trump this week warned on Twitter that "missiles are coming" in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack in Syria and that Russian Federation should "get ready".

Russian Federation said on Saturday it would consider supplying S-300 surface to-air missile systems to Syria following the Western strikes, but this was not discussed at the meeting with Assad, agencies reported.

President Assad launched a bloody offensive on Eastern Ghouta along with Russian military assistance.

Sweden also launched a new bid to prevent escalation by proposing a UNSC resolution on Thursday that would ask Guterres to send a high-level disarmament team to Syria to address "all outstanding issues" regarding the use of deadly chemical agents as weapons.

"Get ready Russian Federation, because they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!'".

Russian Federation has been a staunch ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government and has helped turn the tide of war in his favour since entering the conflict in September 2015.

The military action is a response to an apparent chemical weapons attack that killed dozens of people earlier this month.

Trump did not detail what a strike on Syria would look like, or whether these would be US missiles.

An aide to Iran's supreme leader says he hopes Syrian forces will "expel the American occupiers" in the country's northeast after they retake other areas of the country from insurgents.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement that a target of the strike was the Syrian government's "clandestine chemical arsenal". The US says it suspects that sarin gas also was used. "We know a chemical weapon was used". Trump on Wednesday had warned Russian Federation to "get ready" for a missile attack on its ally Syria.

"When the 2016 presidential elections took place, the Duma celebrated Trump's election with champagne, and Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin congratulated him; against the background of this euphoria, we made him an honorary member of the Cossack society", Ibris chairman Andrei Polyakov said, speaking to Russia's Rosbalt portal.

"We also invited the newly-elected United States president to visit us, because it was presumed that the meeting between Russian and U.S. presidents would be held in Vladimir Putin's native city of St. Petersburg".

While next moves for the administration's counter response are still under consderation, the president has called off his weekend plans of heading to the Summit of the Americas and instead will be staying in the U.S.to focus on a Syria response. Western states are thought to be preparing for missile strikes in response to the alleged attack.

He has said any strikes would target the Syrian government's "chemical capabilities".Other key figures have been showing signs that they anticipate strikes to happen soon.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said the chemical weapons attack in Syria was staged by humanitarian groups.

Rather they were "in response to the totality of the Russian government's ongoing and increasingly brazen pattern of malign activity around the world".

Russian officials condemned the USA -led airstrikes on three sites in Syria early Saturday, calling the attacks "treacherous and insane" and a "clear and present danger to world peace".

Moscow's relations with the West has been sour over years amid disagreements involving the war in Syria, the conflict in Ukraine, and also the alleged Kremlin meddling in the 2016 USA presidential elections, which Moscow has denied.

Dan Mahaffee, senior vice president and director of policy at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress, told Xinhua that Trump's Twitter account has become a direct pipeline to the thinking of the president and, in this instance, the thinking of the commander-in-chief of the USA military at a time of global tension.
