Robert Griffin: Signing with Baltimore

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Robert Griffin III signed a one-year deal Wednesday with the Baltimore Ravens. The former Redskins signal caller only played five games for the Browns after suffering an injury early in the season.

The last time Robert Griffin III played in a game was January 1, 2017 as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

The Ravens were planning to address the position behind Joe Flacco, a mission general manager Ozzie Newsome shared at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

"He had a real good workout and we were able to come to an agreement".

After sitting out last year, Griffin still made it clear in media interviews that he had a desire to play again, and said he came close to signing with Baltimore last year. He won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year over top pick Andrew Luck by throwing 20 touchdown passes against just five interceptions.

Baltimore represents the next best chance for Griffin to re-establish a once-bright career that has been lost at sea since 2014. He struggled to regain his form and was eventually benched for good in favor of Kirk Cousins in 2015 and cut in 2016. Griffin, 28, provides Baltimore a backup with starting National Football League experience.

It's possible Baltimore could still look to draft a developmental quarterback as well. However, Newsome said the Griffin signing doesn't necessarily mean the Ravens won't be looking to select a quarterback during this year's NFL Draft.

It's a new start for Griffin, who will still have to battle for a roster spot in the Charm City.
