Kim Jong-un makes first official mention of USA talks

The President said planning is continuing for the unprecedented meeting, which he said would address North Korea's nuclear weapons. They 've said. We've said. He added that previous presidents should have held such talks. "Meeting being planned", Trump wrote. Our earlier story follows.

The confirmation from Pyongyang directly, rather than from third countries like South Korea, has created more confidence within Trump's administration about the wisdom of holding such a meeting, as US officials make secretive preparations.

Previously, the leadership of North Korea informed the us administration about the readiness of DPRK leader Kim Jong-UN to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

This undated picture released from North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on August 4, 2016 shows North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un delivering a speech at the 3rd Meeting of KPA Activists in O Jung Hup-led 7th Regiment Title Movement at the April 25 House of Culture in Pyongyang.

Either way, "denuclearization", in the sense that Kim means it, does not equate to what the United States has long sought on the Peninsula: the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of North Korea.

"The pressure is real and has increased, and I do think that it has frustrated Kim Jong Un's ambitions", he said, referring to Kim's "simultaneous push" policy of developing the nuclear program and the economy at the same time.

A South Korean envoy risked the wrath of Kim Jong Un by telling him to kick his smoking habit during landmark talks, according to reports.

A North Korean diplomat reaffirmed Tuesday that Pyongyang remains committed to denuclearizing the peninsula through progressive and simultaneous actions.

The U.S. official declined to say exactly when the U.S. The officials weren't authorized to comment by name and demanded anonymity.

The communications, still at a preliminary stage, have involved State Department officials talking to North Korea apparently through its United Nations mission, and intelligence officers from both sides using a separate backchannel, the official said.

The Trump administration has not said where the meeting will place or whether a location has been determined, nor has an exact date been set.

Details on the talks are still unclear, including the exact agenda and place.

The North has previously demanded the withdrawal of USA troops based in the South and the end of the security alliance between Seoul and Washington - an extraordinary concession that it is hard to imagine any previous United States president acceding to.
