IPL matches shifted out of Chennai

With Chenna team forced to shift their remaining six matches of the T20 league out of the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk due to security concerns over the massive Cauvery water dispute protests, the franchise has made a decision to shift their home base to Pune with immediate effect. "Will miss playing on our home ground and entertaining our #Chennai fans this season. You are always in our hearts".

Speaking to BusinessLine, all that CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said was that the BCCI would take a final call on the alternative venue.

It's not the first time Chennai have had to play away from home.

Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Rajkot were considered by CSK after the BCCI had listed them as stand-by venues.

It would seem as though the Chennai Super Kings have started the Indian Premier League (IPL) in great fashion.

The CSK management is downcast that the matches are moving out of Chennai. The atmosphere last game was incredible. "Let's hope this situation in Tamil Nadu is sorted out asap".

Apart from players, CSK's batting coach Michael Hussey also said that he feels for the fans and the players regarding the decision to shift the IPL matches from Chennai.

CSK next play Kings XI Punjab at Mohali's IS Bindra Stadium on Sunday. "Pune has better connectivity, so it was decided that CSK shift base to Pune", the source said.

Yesterday, the teams had to enter the MA Chidambaram stadium through the back gate as the complex turned into a fortress with the deployment of hundreds of police personnel.

During Tuesday's game, the team told the sellout crowd they will not be allowed to take mobile phones, bags or other electronic devices into the stadium. They braved the protests that happened outside Chepauk regarding the Cauvery issue to come out and support their favourite franchise and Chennai rewarded them with a thrilling win.

During the Tuesday's IPL match, shoes were also hurled at Chennai Super Kings cricketer Ravindra Jadeja and South African skipper Faf du Plessis.

A Tamil group on Wednesday threatened to release snakes during the Super Kings' next match on April 20 against Rajasthan Royals.
