CWG 2018: India para-powerlifter Sachin Chaudhary wins bronze

Nigeria's Abdulazeez Ibrahim took Gold with 191.9 points while Malaysia Yee Khie Jong clinched Silver with 188.7 points.

Heena Sidhu, India's shooting star, just won her first ever individual Commonwealth gold, and her second medal at the Commonwealth Games 2018 - and in style, no less.

Four Indian athletes were in action on Tuesday in the Para Powerlifting competitions, but only one of them emerged with a medal.

However, India held on to their third spot in the overall tally, behind hosts Australia and England. Sidhu broke the CWG record in the process in Gold Coast on Tuesday.

At the Belmont Shooting Centre in Brisbane, Sidhu, 28, helped the Indian shooting contingent pick up its third gold medal of this CWG as she shot a final score of 38, two of them being ideal fives, to claim top honours, ahead of Australia's Elena Galiabovitch.

India's Farman Basha finished fifth in the men's Lightweight category of the Para Powerlifting competition.

India had two shooters in the fray here, Annu Singh being the other. Tanwar won his 91kg quarter-final against Samoa's Fans Masoe 5-0 to progress as well, and later in the day Hussamuddin defeated his 56kg opponent 5-0 before Manoj won 4-1 in his 69kg quarter-final. Malaysia fought back well and equaliser in the second quarter via Faizal Saari's field goal. But the South Africans matched them with pace and precision. Though they lost Lalremsiami with a yellow card with 6:46 on the clock, India did well to keep the advantage until full time.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment in the Men's 50m Rifle Prone where both the Indian shooters finished outside the podium places.

Muhammad Anas Yahiya ran perhaps his best race ever in the final of the Men's 400m, but missed the bronze narrowly finishing a very creditable 4th. Narang, who won a shooting bronze at the 2012 London Olympics, shot a total of 142.3 in the final.

Dipika Pallikal and Sourav Ghosal began their Squash Mixed Doubles sojourn with an easy win, as the pair of Satwiksairaj and Ashwini also had an easy outing in their Mixed Doubles Badminton tie.

This was the 11 gold medal for India in this year's CWG and Heena's first individual gold in three editions of this quadrennial event.
