Campbell, who anchored Australia to a world record as they won the 4x100m freestyle relay Thursday, broke the Games mark with 23.88 seconds in her 50m freestyle semifinal.

"It's been fantastic, really good".

Australia's victory comes two years after three of the current side were involved in a crash just three days out from competing in Rio's Olympics.

In the opening game, Uganda failed to overcome a more experienced England side and lost 5-0 in the opening pool D encounter.

The opening ceremony on the Gold Coast was full of magical moments.

"My coach said, 'The atmosphere out there is electric, go out, soak it up, '" she said.

The result caps another excellent day for Australia, who now have a total of 32 medals from their exploits in the pool, including 11 golds.

The women's pursuit team - Ashlee Akudinoff, Annette Edmondson, Amy Cure and Alexandra Manly - also took gold, nearly lapping New Zealand, The Australian reported.
