Fox Delays X-Men Movies

Fox Delays X-Men Movies

They also moved The New Mutants from February 2019 to August 2, 2019.

It's still unclear as to why the studio has chosen to delay the fourth film in its hugely popular and rebooted X-Men-verse, but it's more than likely an attempt to get the main franchise instalment right.

Late Monday night, 20 Century Fox announced new release dates for two of its upcoming X-Men movies.

Here's a synopsis: Picking up ten years after X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Dark Phoenix finds the X-Men in a place they've never been before: National heroes!

According to Collider, Dark Phoenix was pushed back to allow for more reshoots after test screenings revealed it needed additional photography.

20th Century Fox's slate of X-Men movies has officially been reshuffled. Because "Dark Phoenix" features a large ensemble cast with numerous A-listers, including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence, the earliest everyone can come together is August or September.

I mean, with Dark Phoenix flying to February 2019, that's a major benefit for Disney's The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, since Bohemian Rhapsody will only open to a fraction of what Dark Phoenix does.

New Mutants is a different matter, however.

As for The New Mutants, it's apparently been delayed because it's not scary enough.

Sources close to ComicBook.com suggest both Dark Phoenix and New Mutants have been earmarked for heavy reshoots following today's double postponement. New Mutants is directed by Josh Boone starring Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage, and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.

The reshoots that the studio wants are now even more significant. The idea of a horror comic book movie seemed particularly neat, and I can only hope these reshoots will turn out for the best. Or this could be some outcome of Disney's acquisition of Fox.
