Apple to launch new low-cost iPads next week

Aside from having Apple Pencil support, the new iPad - expected to be the cheapest tablet from Apple yet - is going to come with a new software for the classroom, people familiar with the matter said on condition of anonymity. It's safe to assume that multiple cheap models of the iPad will appear with Pencil support.

Rumors have pointed towards a $259 budget iPad launch this year as Apple attempts to gain back traction from Google and Microsoft in the United States education market. Apple's high-end iPad variants are the only ones that can be used with the Pencil, but the company is reportedly updating its hardware so that the smaller iPad, as well as the iPhone, will be compatible with it.

Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

The iPhone maker is hosting an education-focused event on Tuesday in Chicago where they're expected to make a few product-related announcements.

Beyond Chromebooks, which now represent 60% of the market, Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) has also been trying to better address the market, including with a new mobile device management offering previous year designed for education. Bloomberg also reported that a cheaper MacBook laptop is also in the works, and that it will replace the MacBook Air at under $1,000.

Kuo is a KGI Securities analyst who has been nearly unerringly accurate in his predictions for Apple's plans. Meanwhile, as Apple has been announcing increasingly expensive iPhone models, Microsoft and Google devices have been in demand in classrooms due to their lower cost.

With recent advertisement attack, Apple is eager to capture more young minds with the iPad. The main reason is attributed to the fact that the $329 iPad released in 2017 was sold out like hot cakes with over 44 million units selling out across the world.

In an invitation to the Chicago event, Apple said it will introduce "creative new ideas for teachers and students".

According to the latest reports, Apple is about to unveil its latest hardware for the year 2018 as the company holds its first product event next week.

Apple on Friday proposed a batch of at least nine new accessibility characters, according to Emojipedia.
