Apple iOS 11.3 brings power management to the people

Apple iOS 11.3 brings power management to the people

The introduction of ARKit with iOS 11 put augmented reality into the hands of hundreds of millions of iPhone and iPad users, making iOS the world's biggest AR platform.

Apple on Thursday released iOS 11.3, which, perhaps most notably, lets you switch off its controversial slowdown feature and see a breakdown of your battery's health, so you'll know whether it needs to be serviced.

In case you see the iOS 11.3 update available, just tap the Download and Install button and follow the instructions.

The iOS 11.3 update also brings new lion, bear, dragon, and skull Animojis to iPhone X users.

The new Health Records feature let patients of more than 40 health systems view their medical records from multiple institutions right from their iPhone. They'll show information like allergies, vaccines, lab results and any medications you've been prescribed as a timeline.

The Health app surfaces a list of hospitals and clinics participating in the Health Records feature.

Once the update is installed, users will be able to use iPhone Battery Health to take control over how the device handles performance and battery issues as it ages.

Apple incited outrage - and a U.S. Department of Justice investigation - late past year when it confirmed that it had been slowing down aging iPhones in an effort to preserve battery life and prevent unexpected shutdowns. Users communicate with a human employee of the company, of whom they can ask a question or make a payment to with Apple Pay.

Inside Apple Music's Browse screen there's a new section: Music Videos.

In iOS 11.3, you can get a podcast playing simply by tapping on it; previously, you would need to tap once to load the episode's detail view, then tap the play button from there. With recent generations of phones, starting with the iPhone 6, Apple started using lithium-ion batteries.

Apple said its user interaction engineers worked to ensure that this was not as much of a nuisance as European Union legislation on cookies turned out to be.

Owners of older devices can now disable a feature that slows down their iPhone to prevent a sudden shutdown. The idea here with Apple is that multiple systems are collected into a single app.
