Ex-UofL Forward Bowen Enrolls at SC

A top basketball recruit, whose unexpected decision to commit to Louisville became a focal point in the FBI's investigation into corruption in college basketball, has transferred to SC, the school announced Wednesday.

Brian Bowen still wants to give college basketball a shot, apparently.

Bowen enrolled at Louisville and began taking classes but his world turned upside down in late September when the FBI brought four college basketball coaches up on federal fraud and corruption charges. He is a strong, athletic small forward, who can really shoot the ball and rebound.

The 6-foot-7 forward will sit out the next two semesters before hitting the court, due to NCAA transfer rules.

Now, a possible fresh start. "I'm really excited to get an opportunity like this with a terrific coach like Frank Martin and a program like SC", he told ESPN. "Based upon the facts and application of the NCAA's Bylaws, Brian should be reinstated in my opinion". Though not mentioned directly, Brown was later identified as the "unnamed player" that Adidas funneled $100,000 to at the request of a Louisville coach.

Bowen spoke to Jeff Goodman of ESPN in December and said that he did not know anything about one reported payment of $19,500 that allegedly went to his father, Brian Bowen Sr. Pitino, after 16 seasons with the Cardinals, was sacked October 16.

"I can not speak for the NCAA but I am confident that they will be fair and will afford Brian the due process that he deserves", attorney Jason Setchen said. He had the right to remain on scholarship for as long as he chose to stay at Louisville and also received written permission to contact other schools to seek a transfer. Originally from MI, he played in high school at La Lumiere School in La Porte, Ind., and was named a McDonald's All-American. He was selected as a McDonald's All-American.
