Duke alum and Missouri Governor Eric Greitens faces investigation into extramarital affiar

There was a lot of talk Thursday morning from legislators on both sides of the aisle, as some called for the governor to resign, while others say they're praying for the families involved, after a report came out late Wednesday night alleging Governor Eric Greitens blackmailed a woman he later admitted to having affair with in 2015.

Greitens acknowledged being "unfaithful" in his marriage before he was elected governor but denied taking any naked photos and threatening the woman to stay quiet.

The husband, also not identified in the local report, said that the recording was made after one of the first sexual encounters in 2015. The ex-husband's attorney said Thursday that his client had told him Greitens also slapped the woman at a later time.

"Bruce Rauner must renounce the support of Missouri Governor Eric Greitens and promise to stop using him in ads", DGA Illinois Communications Director Sam Salustro said in a statement.

The woman in the affair, who has not been named or made an on-the-record statement, was Greitens' hairdresser, according to KMOV's months-long investigation. They must know that the Office of the Circuit Attorney will hold public officials accountable in the same manner as any other resident of our city.

The affair was "a deeply personal mistake", the statement said.

Some representatives, like Kansas City Democrat Lauren Arthur, took to twitter calling for Greiten's resignation, but House Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty, also of Kansas City, says she wants an investigation into the allegations before calling for a resignation.

Following the blackmail allegation, Gardner announced her office's probe, but did not offer details as to what actions by Greitens would be investigated. She did not know she was being recorded. The couple has two sons, Joshua and Jacob.

"I knew that he was being sexual and I still let him", she said. "After further consideration, I have chose to launch an investigation into the alleged actions of Governor Greitens. Eric took responsibility, and we dealt with this together honestly and privately".

The FBI's St. Louis office did not immediately respond TPM's request for comment.

His lawyer, in a separate statement, added: "There was no blackmail, and that claim is false. The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these almost-three year-ago events are a lie". He barely hid his higher ambitions and reserved the web address years ago. "The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these nearly three-year-ago events are a lie".

In the recordings, she revealed a sexual encounter with Greitens inside his home where he blindfolded her and bound her hands.

Senate Democratic leaders Gina Walsh and Kiki Curls said "violence and threats against women are never acceptable" and that the allegations must be investigated.

I saw a flash through the blindfold and he said, 'You're never going to mention my name'.

"We have a loving marriage and an awesome family; anything beyond that is between us and God".

"The husband did say to her that he felt that that was an attempt at blackmail", she told Inside Edition.
