Annual Girl Scout Cookie program starts today

After last year's 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts selling cookies, troops across Nebraska will kick off this season February 2 with the return of Girl Scout S'mores, the most popular new flavor in the history of the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

It's that time of year, again.

Police joked the "Cookie Cartel", also known as cute and innocent girl scouts, lure unsuspecting buyers into a good cause.

But what is apparent is that Coke Zero Sugar's bolder brand imaging does a better job of attracting consumers than Diet Coke. Diet Coke itself was down 6% in the same period, while PepsiCo's Diet Pepsi suffered even more with an 8% volumes drop.

Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas counts 15,000 members and covers a large swath, extending to the state lines of Oklahoma and Louisiana and south almost to Waco.

For many of us, Girl Scout cookies are a treat that we look forward to all year. "The way our first responders rallied this year, we thought it was especially important to demonstrate how thankful we are to them". There will be Thin Mints, which I think will never be unseated as the most popular cookie.

Cookies are $4 a box upon delivery except for gluten-free Trios, which are $5 a box. To participate, you'll need to be in one of San Jacinto Council's 26 counties. Are you insane about Caramel deLites? "They're not required to buy cookies but they have to find a girl scout at a booth or through the council to get the code". The program runs through March 25. In 2017, the program donated 95,000 boxes of cookies. Whether it's a trip she'll never forget, a service project that will change her community forever, or the opportunity to build a lifetime of memories at camp, Girl Scout Cookies help make it all happen!
