Almost 100000 displaced by fighting in northwest Syria's Idlib since December 1

Almost 100000 displaced by fighting in northwest Syria's Idlib since December 1

If it is recaptured, the airport will be "the first military base in the hands of the regime in Idlib province", said Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman.

The government-controlled Syrian Central Military Media said on Wednesday that Syrian troops are fighting militants, including members of al-Qaida-linked Levant Liberation Committee, in different areas near Abu Zuhour.

Rebels launched a counter-attack against Syrian government forces and their allies in Idlib province on Thursday, trying to roll back an advance that is fuelling tension with neighbouring Turkey.

Almost three million people are believed to be in the Idlib region, their numbers swelled by fighters and civilians who fled Syrian army advances elsewhere in the country.

The activists said the warplane belonged to the Syrian army.

Although he is a keen golfer, Trump is also said "not to believe" in exercise , reports the BBC. The White House has said tests of mental fitness will not be part of the president's physical .

The counter-offensive is likely to slow advances on the ground in the interim, though they usually lead to escalations in airstrikes against both the rebel forces, and rebel-held towns in the vicinity of the fighting.

A day earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor group said the Syrian army entered the southern part of Abu al-Duhur air base, adding that clashes were taking place inside the compound.

The U.N. agency said the situation in Idlib was "extremely chaotic" with newly displaced people reportedly scattered across open areas.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Foreign Ministry denied claims by the French Foreign Ministry about the Syrian army's targeting of hospitals and civilians during the military campaign in Idlib.

"The brigades killed more than 50 regime soldiers and captured 17 so far", Mohammad Rashid, a rebel fighter and spokesman for Jaish al-Nasr, told The Times.
