Roy and Kayla Moore's Jewish Lawyer Voted for Doug Jones

U.S. Senator-elect Doug Jones of Alabama this week hired Dana Gresham, an African-American Washington, D.C. insider, as his chief of staff.

Jones became the first Democrat in 25 years to win a Senate seat in Alabama when he defeated Republican Roy Moore in the December 12 special election to fill Jeff Sessions's seat.

The arrival of Smith and Jones on Capitol Hill highlighted the extent to which the #MeToo movement has swept over Washington. But in the Trump era it's not clear what that will mean, since other Democrats from conservative states who make bipartisan noises just like Jones have regularly voted with their party on important floor actions (other than judicial confirmations).

"The votes are just not there in such a closely divided Senate", said Jim Manley, a Democratic strategist who served as a top aide to former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Time will tell exactly how Jones will balance representing a ruby-red state while maintaining Democratic values, including his pro-abortion rights stance.

Before Jones' victory, the state had not elected a Democrat to the Senate in 25 years.

Walter Mondale, who was vice president during the Carter administration, was also there as Smith took the oath.

The Senator went against tradition for the ceremony.

Trump Dissolves Troubled Voter Fraud Commission
Williams has long maintained that Colorado's elections are safe and secure. States' resistance to the commission appeared to force its demise.

The groups have urged Republicans and Democrats to make it a priority this Congress. "That is a nonstarter", Jones said.

Meanwhile, Moore has continued to refuse to concede the election he lost to Doug Jones, and issued a statement last week (falsely) alleging that rampant voter fraud was responsible for his loss and not, say, the many accusations that he has a thing for teen girls.

Mr. Jones says he is optimistic that both parties can solve the thorniest of issues, including health care and how to handle "Dreamers" who were brought to the US illegally as children. Al Franken who stepped down Tuesday, following allegations that he touched women inappropriately.

Jones kept that Alabama focus when hiring his senior staff.

Senate Republican aides privately conceded that Jones's vote will make it almost impossible to take another run at repealing the Affordable Care Act and may quiet talk of a push for a major entitlement overhaul this year.

"Fake news would tell you that we don't care for Jews". Both Strange and Franken served on the panel, meaning that if Jones and Smith simply replaced them, committee membership would be tied.

Soon after defeating Republican Roy Moore last month, Jones said he was committed to diversity in his office.
