Le'Veon Bell threatens retirement if Steelers give him another franchise tag

All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell may be prepared to sit out the 2018 season or retire if the Pittsburgh Steelers use the franchise tag on him again, ESPN reported Thursday.

Just what the Pittsburgh Steelers needed before their first playoff game this season: Le'Veon Bell making threats about being franchise tagged again.

Last year Bell was banned from Steelers minicamp, was a training camp holdout for quite a while and missed a substantial portion of the preseason as well.

The plot thickened when Bell made a decision to sit out the entire preseason before officially signing the $12.1 million franchise tag just ahead of the season opener.

If Bell were to sit out the year, he told ESPN, he would likely be finished with football.

Ronda Rousey was caught on video taking a very big meeting
It was great to catch up with her. "But it's exciting and there are a lot of interest on both sides so let's see where it goes". She maintained an undefeated 12-0 record before suffering losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes in her final two bouts.

In averaging 19.9 FanDuel points per game, Bell ran for 1,291 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2017.

He said his contract expectations are about being valued and setting the standard for players in his position. He scored 11 touchdowns - nine rushing, two receiving. Teams can tag a player between February 20 and March 6, after which they would have until July 16 to work out a long-term deal.

When Fowler asked the question, all Bell had to do was say he isn't thinking about the offseason and move to his talk of the Super Bowl.

The timing of those comments wasn't exactly great as the Steelers are preparing to face the Jaguars in a divisional-round playoff game on Sunday, but Bell walked them back shortly afterwards via Twitter. Teams can tag a player between February 20 and March 6, after which they would have until July 16 at 4 p.m. ET to work out a long-term contract. I'm not going to settle for anything. I know what I do and what I bring to the table. And they're going to offer him a contract that looks something like last year but also incorporates the notion that Bell played all year long and dealt with the touches that come with a full season of being a feature back. "I'm not going out here getting the ball 400 times if I'm not getting what I feel I'm valued at".

He added: "I don't necessarily care about the money aspect of it". "Right now, I'm just kind of doing it because I love it". If he gets tagged and doesn't get to test free agency, then things might get sticky.
