Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon was selected as the team's goalkeeper, with his teammate Giorgio Chiellini in the center-back spot.

European football's governing body announced its annual Team of the Year on Thursday, after nearly 8.8 million votes were cast by users on UEFA's official website.

De Gea was one of Manchester United's most important players as they claimed two trophies in 2017, including the Europa League.

Both Buffon and Chiellini have been included, as has former Bianconeri full-back Dani Alves, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
