Downed Power Lines Close Interstate 80/94 In Gary

Northbound lanes of I-65 reopened at 4pm.

SEYMOUR, IN- An early morning crash has shut down Interstate 65 in southern Indiana.

Westbound traffic was being diverted off I-80/94 at Grant Street, and eastbound traffic was being diverted off at Cline Avenue. It was not immediately clear how long the closure would last.

Sgt. Wheeles with Indiana State Police said it appears that multiple hazardous chemicals being transported by one of the semis in the crash had a reaction when mixed together, causing the fire. Southbound remained closed until about 9 p.m. Any home withing a half-mile of the crash was evacuated.

Ninety percent of China's beef imports come now from Brazil, Uruguay, Australia and New Zealand. The aim is to complete that agreement this spring, Le Maire said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Police also called for an evacuation after chemicals that spilled onto the road became volatile.

According to WLKY, both the north and southbound lanes are shut down on I-65 following a crash involving three tractor trailers. Police are urging drivers to seek alternate routes as there is a risk of explosion due to the leaking semi being fully engulfed in flames.

State police briefly reopened the left lane around 10:30 a.m. and said the right lane was expected to reopen Wednesday afternoon.

A passenger in one of the vehicles suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
