Erdogan: Muslim nations to seek UN 'annulment' of Trump's Jerusalem move

Turkey is launching initiatives in the United Nations to annul Washington's "disgraceful" decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on December 15.

"We are Muslims, we can not be racists, discriminatory or anti-Semites", Erdogan said in remarks made via teleconference to a rally for Jerusalem in the central Konya province, which was attended by hundreds of people.

On Dec. 6, U.S. President Donald Trump announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and relocate the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city. In 1967, after the Six Days War, it seized East Jerusalem and united it with the West Jerusalem, but the UN did not recognize this.

The status of Jerusalem is among the core issues related to the moribund Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

It also said Trump's move was "an announcement of the United States administration's withdrawal from its role as sponsor of peace" in the Middle East, echoing Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

In an address last Wednesday from the White House, Trump said that after repeated failures to achieve peace, a new approach was long overdue.

Turkish President Recep TayyipErdogan on Wednesday urged the Islamic world to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, while Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas refused any USA involvement in the peace process.

Living Greenland shark could be over half a millennia old
And because of its unconventional range and habitat, the Greenland shark is still a mysterious species to scientists. Scientists have been left reeling after discovering a shark thought to be more than 500 years old.

Trump's decision broke with decades of U.S. policy and worldwide consensus that the city's status must be left to Israeli-Palestinian talks, leading to harsh criticisms from Muslim countries and Israel's closest European allies, who have also rejected the move.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, has defended the decision. Peace is based on reality.

"For 3,000 years, Jerusalem has been the capital of the Jewish people", he said.

"President Trump.does not intend to reverse himself, despite the various condemnations and declarations", Ambassador David Friedman said.

"Some countries in our region are in cooperation with the United States and the Zionist regime and determining the fate of Palestine", seethed Rouhani, whose country does not recognize Israel and has dire relations with Saudi Arabia.

"During the summit, we took historic decisions regarding Jerusalem and Palestine".
