Sheffield Council lifts Uber licence suspension

A spokesperson for the Council told The Yorkshire Post: "The application by Uber Britannia Ltd to renew its private hire operator's licence in York has been considered by City of York Council's Gambling, Licensing and Regulatory Committee tonight".

The Gambling, Licensing and Regulatory Committee refused Uber's renewal application last night, after complaints that drivers from outside York were touting for business in the city and the data breach past year that affected 57 million customers and drivers, the Yorkshire Post reports.

Uber's licence was due to expire in York on Christmas Eve this year, having twice previously been granted clearance to operate - most recently on December 21 2016.

The city of Sheffield in northern England earlier this month also said it had suspended Uber's licence, although the company can operate if it appeals.

He said: "The trade does not object to fair competition, but Uber are not a fair player in the public transport world in the United Kingdom".

Gujarat results will be zabardast: Rahul
I will go to Ambaji in the sea-plane after landing in Dharoi dam and come back", said Mr. For Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi the day began with a visit to Jagannath Temple.

However, drivers licensed by other authorities and from as far as London have clogged up the roads in recent months, much to the chagrin of local taxi firms.

"I always consider York taxi drivers to be the foremost ambassadors for our city and they are the first people visitors will meet", Cllr Dave Taylor, who was one of seven councillors to refuse the company a licence, was quoted as saying. Passengers tell us they love being able to track their auto on a live map, pay without cash and get a receipt with their fare and the route taken.

In a statement today, Sheffield council confirmed that the ban has now been lifted after the company "provided satisfactory replies to the questions asked by Sheffield City Council about the management of Uber".

Uber has been operating in York for 16 months and according to Saf Din, chair of the York Hackney Carriage Drivers Association, only a handful of drivers are licensed to work in the popular tourist hotspot and university town.

Uber is set to appeal the decision and a hearing date is expected in April 2018.
