Salah, who has been in sparkling form for Liverpool, won the coveted award ahead of the likes of ahead of Senegalese and Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane, Nigerian and Chelsea forward, Victor Moses of Chelsea, reigning African Footballer of the Year 2017, Gabonese and Borussia Dortmund Striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang; Guinean and RB Leipzig midfielder.

"I am very happy to win this award", said Salah. "You feel like you did a great year, so I am very happy".

After the turn of the year in the last campaign, Salah contributed towards 19 goals (10 goals, nine assists) in Roma's final 20 games of last season across all competitions which earned him a £37m move to Liverpool in the summer.

Overall, he has scored five goals for the Pharaohs in 2017, including a 95th minute penalty against Congo DR to secure Egypt's first World Cup qualification since 1990.

Manager Jurgen Klopp presented the award to the 25-year old Egyptian, who has scored 13 Premier League goals this season.
