Hugh Jackman ditched James Bond role for X-Men 2

Here's what Jackman had to say about it. Logan - his final portrayal as Wolverine after almost two decades with the character - is one of the most well-received superhero films of all time, and he's about to roll out The Greatest Showman, a massive spectacle about the life of P.T. Barnum. It was Hugh and James Mangold and myself, and when it got to the last 10 minutes of the movie, it was emotional and intense, and I could feel myself getting choked up. "And I was calm and at peace, but I'm going to miss that guy".

In February, shortly before Logan's theatrical release, Jackman said that although it wouldn't have necessarily stopped him from hanging up the claws and muttonchops, an opportunity to team up with Marvel Studios' Avengers would have at least made him reconsider his departure from superhero movie genre. There's a spirit of determination there that's actually rather moving.

Hugh Jackman has revealed he was offered the role of James Bond more than a decade ago, but turned it down after being told he would have no say in changing the "unbelievable and crazy" direction of the franchise at that time. As Pierce Brosnan was preparing to depart the role, executives approached Jackman as a potential replacement.

New Tomb Raider game in development
Square Enix's next Tomb Raider game has yet to be confirmed for launch on any platforms, and does not now have a release date. Noticeably, the statement contains seven sentences, with the first letter of each sentence spelling out the word "Shadow".

"I was about to do "X-Men 2" and a call came from my agent asking if I'd be interested in Bond", the Australian star told Variety. However, the actor felt the franchise wasn't gritty enough at the time and made a decision to opt out of portraying James Bond.

But you know which film he went ahead with. "You just have to sign on, '" Jackman added.

In an interview with Variety promoting his latest film, The Greatest Showman on Earth, the actor was naturally asked about Logan, the swan song for his character Wolverine (aka Logan).
