Rahul asks Aiyar to apologise for 'neech' remarks against PM

Aiyar, while talking to ANI, said it was the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who turned Dr Ambedkar's wish into reality and it was not correct to badmouth the Nehru-Gandhi family.

"They can call me "Neech"- Yes, I am from the poor section of society and will spend every moment of my life to work for the poor, Dalits, Tribals and OBC communities". That is my culture. The prime minister said Aiyar's comment was an insult to Gujarat.

He said Aiyar was speaking out of the "Mughlai mindset" that "sees everyone as "neech". They have their language and we have our work. Nobody knows how many times have Congress leaders used this sort of language against Modi in the past. But our value system is strong.

"I appeal to all BJP activists not to retort". The second phase of voting will take place on December 14. My people should not lower their standards. "BJP and PM routinely use filthy language to attack the Congress party", Gandhi said on Twitter. The Congress has a different culture and heritage. I do not appreciate the tone and language used by Mr Mani Shankar Aiyar to address the PM.

"The Congress has served a showcause notice to Mani Shankar Aiyar and suspended him from the primary membership of the party", Surjewala said.

Prasad alleged that Aiyar targetted Modi because the latter had questioned the delayed conferring of Bharat Ratna - the countrys highest civilian award - on Dalit icon Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I tend to think in English when I speak in Hindi as Hindi is not my mother tongue.

"This person is a "neech aadmi" (low-minded)". If it happened to mean something else.

"I never meant "low born". It is very possible that in Hindi - which is not my natural language and which I learned after much effort - I translated "low" as "neech". So if it has some other meaning or it means "low-born" only, then I apologise for the wrong translation. He further said, Congress will get the answer for making such a remark against "the son of Gujarat" in the upcoming polls. Aiyar's mindset is a "darbaari" one'.

"This (the remarks) is the feudal arrogance of the Congress, as they could not digest the fact that the son of a poor tea seller has become the prime minister".
