Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi heading to the Louvre Abu Dhabi

Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi heading to the Louvre Abu Dhabi

"Da Vinci's Salvator Mundi is coming to #Louvre Abu Dhabi", the museum said on its Twitter feed late Wednesday evening.

Dated around 1500, Salvator Mundi feature's a light-skinned depiction of Jesus Christ complete with orange-hued curled locks, a crystal ball in one hand and giving the sign of a blessing in the other.

It is one of fewer than 20 paintings generally accepted as being from the Renaissance master's own hand, according to Christie's. Without elaborating, he also added he was just one of the 5,000 princes in Saudi Arabia.

"The word "masterpiece" barely begins to convey the rarity, importance and sublime beauty of Leonardo's painting", said Wintermute.

This particular prince reportedly did not have a history of collecting art and was a friend of Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The newspaper confirmed that the Prince Bader purchased the rare painting after citing documents it had reviewed while in the midst of an investigation into Saudi Arabia's elite class, including his family and associates.

The report added after Prince Bader made a deposit of $100 million to qualify for the auction, Christie's lawyers reportedly questioned the prince regarding his financial sources and relationship with the crown prince.

Republicans just received 2 alarming reviews of their tax plan
As many as 46% of those polled said that the investigation was justified, 74% of them being Democrats and 17% Republicans. The House voted 222-192 Monday to approve a motion to go to conference with the Senate on the tax overhaul bill.

Notably, the 32-year-old prince's identity wasn't revealed without his knowledge. As the Times points out, in July the king appointed Prince Bader as governor of a new commission led by Prince Mohammed and charged with developing the Al Ola region into a tourist destination.

'Salvator Mundi, ' which means 'Savior of the World, ' went on public display in 2011 in a dramatic unveiling at The National Gallery in London, where the work was declared to be the first newly discovered Da Vinci painting in a century. King Charles I of England used to be the owner of the painting before it disappeared for a long period of time.

He is paying for the iconic painting in six installments, with at least five of them priced at more than $58million, the Times reported.

New York-based art collector and da Vinci expert Robert Simon and art dealer Alexander Parish found the painting in Louisiana in 2005 and purchased it for $10,000.

The painting was later sold by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who bought it in 2013 for $US127.5 million in a private sale that became the subject of a continuing lawsuit.

The work was exhibited in Hong Kong, San Francisco, London and NY before the sale.
