Google pulls YouTube access from Amazon products

Google pulls YouTube access from Amazon products

You may remember that back in September, Google pulled YouTube support for Amazon's Echo Show, with Google claiming that the speaker's version of the YouTube app original app violated its terms of service and lacked a number of important features.

Basically, Google and Amazon are in a cat fight, and no one is winning.

In a statement aGoogle spokesperson said: "We've been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other's products and services". In a statement on the matter, Google accused Amazon of refusing to sell certain Google branded products. Google seems to be betting that Amazon will want to get YouTube back up and running on its flagship video products before long, so it can afford to take a hard line here.

Google and Amazon have reached another roadblock in their continued beef, as YouTube will no longer be available on both the recently-launched Echo Show as well as from Fire TV smart television devices. "We hope to resolve this with Google as soon as possible".

International Trade Balance Widened to 9-Month High in October
USA exports are up 5.3 percent this year; a weaker dollar has made US goods less expensive overseas. September's trade deficit was also revised higher by Commerce, from -$43.5bn to -$44.9bn.

The Amazon-YouTube fight is also reminiscent of TV industry disputes over carriage fees-in which cable companies stop carrying popular channels-and reflects how the companies that once sought to disrupt media monopolists are turning into them instead. In November, Google said Amazon also stopped selling some of its connected home devices from its Nest subsidiary. Whether or not this move will work, or further escalate this product war between Google and Amazon, remains to be seen. Similarly, Amazon Prime Video doesn't support Google's Cast feature, making it hard to get video to a big screen for Android users.

"It should be about users of Google and Amazon, not Google and Amazon", said the person familiar. The apparent goal was to push its own video streaming hardware instead.

As a result, the YouTube app won't work on the Echo Show from today, while the Fire TV will lose support from January 1st, unless there's a solution in the next couple of weeks.
