The new app, Messenger Kids, enables Facebook to target parents whose kids are still too young to use world's largest social network (which requires users to be at least 13 years old).

And for the past several months, many families at Messenger and Facebook have used the app and helped come up with some of the key features like the easy-to-use parental controls.

The move seems created to lure kids to the app before they try Facebook rival Snapchat, which is popular with teens.

So how does Facebook plan to moderate its Kids app?

The Messenger Kids app is now only available in the United States and can be downloaded on iPad, iPod touch, or iPhone from the App Store.
