Google Maps gets a dedicated two-wheeler mode in India

Over the last few months, we saw a few apps from Google that carried the Go moniker like Files Go or YouTube Go.

Expanding its portfolio of apps optimized for India, Google today announced the launch of Google Assistant for JioPhone.

It will also come with a data saver feature.

Now Google is bringing a customized version of Assistant (with Hindi voice support) to the device, that is adapted to the JioPhone's 2.4-inch QVGA color screen.

"This will help bring the benefits of the Google Assistant to millions of first time internet users on the JioPhone with an intuitive voice-based user interface, along with a rich set of data services".

Caesar Sengupta, Vice-President, Next Billion Users, said Google's India-first suite of products and features are aimed to help more people discover how the Internet can make life easier and more convenient.

Google Assistant is the company's answer to Siri, the artificially intelligent talking bot on Apple's iPhone. You can access it by searching for a destination, and then tapping the motorcycle icon in the row of transport mode options.

National Basketball Association suspends Shaun Livingston, official for Sunday's skirmish
Kirkland has been suspended for one week and will be eligible to officiate games starting on December 11th. Without Livingston, Golden State will likely only have one true point guard, Stephen Curry, available.

Apple's Siri has been found to be therapeutic for children with communication problems, such as those suffering from Down's Syndrome and Autism.

Citing the example of the bike mode on Google Maps and addition of bill payment feature in Tez, Sengupta said, "These additions both speak to the specific lifestyles of a large number of Indians".

"Tez" will support bill payments for Tata Power, MTNL, DishTV, CPDCL and other utility providers that will include national and state electricity providers, water, DTH and gas recharges.

"Once people pay a bill on Tez, they never have to add the billing organization again". For one, it is 4G LTE and VoLTE-ready which means that it has the capability to become a user's full-fledged internet device, much like a smartphone. There are more than 525,000 merchants already on Tez.

Google also announced "Files Go", an app that will help free up space, find files faster and share files offline on smartphones that come with less internal storage.

Just a few weeks ago, Google's CEO Sundar Pichai at the company's earnings call said that Google Tez has managed to grab over 7 million users in just five weeks since the service launch in September 2017. The app can be installed on all devices.
