Both the companies reportedly offered almost Rs 1 crore annual packages, although the institute did not confirm the reports.

At IIT Madras, the number of global offers has also increased, with this year seeing 11 worldwide offers (9 offers in Session 1.1 & 2 offers in Session 1.2) being made on day 1, compared to 3 worldwide offers received last year.

NDTV reached out to IIT Delhi placement office which refused to comment on the package being offered to students citing that historically the placement office has never officially announced package details offered to students.

The first session concluded at 2 pm and witnessed the participation of 16 companies covering 24 job profiles. After the first round the placements will recommence in January and go on till May, 2018.

Airbus Group, Bain & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Google, Goldman Sachs, Intel, Microsoft, ONGC, Procter & Gamble, Samsung R&D, Texas Instruments, Tata Steel and Qualcomm were among the major recruiters previous year.

A total of 195 job offers have been made on the first day of the placement season at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras here with a majority from the analytics, finance and consulting sectors.

Companies that made more than 10 offers this year (2017-18) were EXL Services, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, and Samsung Research Institute Bangalore. As per reports, it is said that Microsoft offered United States dollars 2,14,600 to a student, while Uber was ready with USD 1,55,000.

It was known that two companies namely tech-giant Apple and Nasdaq made their debut at IITs this year. Top Indian companies such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Indian Space Research Organization are also among 50-odd companies and start-up ventures offering hefty packages to the IIT Roorkee students, said Prof NP Padhy, the placement in-charge. The internships for students are facilitated through a coordinated process.
