President Trump attacks Roy Moore's opponent: 'Jones would be a disaster'

The president followed up in a second tweet 40 minutes later: "I endorsed Luther Strange in the Alabama Primary". "If he wins, we get the baggage of him winning, and it becomes a story every day about whether or not you believe the women or Roy Moore, should he stay in the Senate, should he be expelled?" In his first extensive remarks on the matter this week, Trump emphasized that the Alabama Republican had denied the women's claims and asserted that he did not want a Democrat to win the Senate race.

In another tweet, he lamented the defeat of Senator Luther Strange, who Trump endorsed in the September primary vote against Moore.

Ahead of his arrival at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida, his 81st visit to a golf club and 103rd at a Trump property since assuming the presidency, Donald Trump doubled down on his advocacy for Roy Moore.

"I can tell you one thing for sure: We don't need a liberal person in there, a Democrat", Trump told reporters. Trump contends Moore's opponent, Democrat Doug Jones - a former prosecutor - is "WEAK" on crime and border security, "BAD" for the military, veterans, gun rights, and itching to raise taxes "TO THE SKY". Trump wrote in one tweet.

Trump's position stands in stark contrast to that of the Republican establishment, including the Senate leadership, many of whom have called on Moore to drop out of the race.

Despite the multiple allegations against Moore - he reportedly was even banned from an Alabama mall for repeatedly bothering teen girls - Trump has defended him.

On Sunday, Trump criticized Moore's opponent, Jones, on Twitter.

"The moral of the story is: Don't nominate somebody like Roy Moore who could actually lose a seat that any other Republican could win", Graham said.

In a tweet that was sacked off on Sunday morning, Trump called for voters to elect Moore without mentioning the disgraced candidate's name.

On Saturday, the New York Times reported that Trump has expressed his frustration that his daughter, top White House aid Ivanka Trump, publicly denounced the embattled Senate-hopeful. "It's awful on military", Trump said.
