After barring 'Pappu', EC clears Guj BJP ad with word 'yuvraj'

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s CEC meeting to discuss issues related to upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections is now underway at party's headquarters in Delhi.

While "Pappu" is perceived as a social media slur coined to target Gandhi, BJP leaders frequently taunt the Congress scion with words like "yuvraj" or "shahzada".

Prime Minister Modi, Party chief Amit Shah, state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, and other office bearers have reached the party headquarters for the CEC meeting on Wednesday evening.

"It is not a contest about individuals but against the regressive policies and measures taken by the central and state governments due to which the people of Gujarat are suffering".

The BJP, on October 31, reportedly sent a script for the Gujarat assembly elections advertisement titled "Kirana (grocery)" to the media committee of the State Election Commission for approval.

"Major wins for the BJP in the UP Assembly elections earlier this year and victories in local body polls in Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat have proved the popularity of the BJP beyond doubt", the BJP leader said. Also, the committee which examined the script said the use of word "Pappu" was objectionable.

When asked if the advertisement released today is the same wherein the EC had barred the BJP from using the word "Pappu", BJP spokesperson Harshad Patel said, "I am not aware whether the advertisement released today was the same one or not".

When asked to comment on the recent moves in certain quarters to thrash out a solution to the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute, Yadav said the verdict of the Supreme Court would be binding on all.

The Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14. The results will be announced along with that of Himachal Pradesh on December 18.
