Samsung Galaxy S8 Active for AT&T goes on pre-order tomorrow

Samsung Galaxy S8 Active for AT&T goes on pre-order tomorrow

Samsung has officially announced the long rumored Galaxy S8 Active smartphone today in the U.S. It is the rugged version of the Galaxy S8 launched in the first half of this year.

The shock-, shatter-, water-, and dust-resistant device is available for pre-order now and slated to arrive in AT&T stores on August 11.

Next up for Samsung is the super-sized, stylus-enabled Galaxy Note 8, which we're expecting to be made official before the end of the month.

Galaxy S8 Active comes with a 12 Megapixel Dual Pixel camera with Dual LED flash.

The new device, called the Galaxy S8 Active, is constructed with military-grade materials and ditches the curved edges for a flatter, more traditional design and a bigger, more powerful battery - 4,000-mAh compared to the 3,000-mAh of the standard Galaxy S8.

Further combating Apple and its virtual assistant Siri, Samsung's Galaxy S8 Active features Bixby, "with the voice assistant's home screen including quick access to a stopwatch, barometer, compass, and flashlight". Under the hood, you'll find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It also includes the 12MP f/1.7 rear camera and the 8MP front camera, along with support for AT&T's fake 5G network, 5G Evolution.

As usual, the company has managed to insert a larger battery into the new Active device - 4000mAh.

Ever since Samsung started making "Active" variants of its Galaxy S flagships, they have been exclusive to AT&T in the United States. There's also the possibility that Samsung will sell it unlocked directly. Available in "meteor gray" or "titanium gold", it will cost you US$28.34 a month for 30 months with AT&T Next, or $849.99 at full retail price.

AT&T will have a limited time exclusivity on the rugged phone.
