Google and Xiaomi might be partnering for Android One smartphone

It's unclear right now, but something is happening when the timer concludes on 2:40pm EST/7.40pm BST on 21 August. But do keep in mind the fact that Android O release is scheduled for 21 August.

The name - 8.0 Oreo - follows Google's tradition of naming each new version of Android after "sweet treats", and follows 2016's 7.0 Nougat.

Also, the Android O announcement is expected to take place at the same time of the total solar eclipse, which is happening after 99 years in the U.S., since 1917. Another new feature expected to Android O is picture-in-picture mode, similar to Android TV. There have been many speculations till now, regarding the name of the next Android version and Oreo have topped the list of rumored names that people listed for Android O, for a while now. Luckily for us, the event will be live streamed on Google's website.

The software was released at 19:50 BST to coincide with a solar eclipse visible on the east coast of the United States.

Google has stepped up its ambitions in mobile hardware over the past few years with the introduction of the Pixel, the first handset designed by Google "inside and out". Users also have the option to manually turn off the feature on the Google app. Moreover, it also takes up a little more space on-screen.

There is also a proof for the name. The user has to play the actual video and then see if it is relevant or not. Want further proof? Check the image below. We still don't have any confirmation about whether or not OnePlus 5 will get the update. One of the most notable projects was the Mi Box Android TV set-top box which was sold in the US.

Google has named Android after a brand before: The 2013 version was known as Kit Kat.

"One key change in Android Oreo is in the architecture: to make it easier in the future for phone manufacturers to make their changes, but still push out new versions of the operating system to users".
