Authorities say escaped Georgia inmates captured

The two state prisoners who overpowered two Georgia State Correctional Officers driving a transport bus early Tuesday morning before killing them and escaping have a checkered past.

The two men are wanted for reportedly killing two Georgia state prison guards on a bus before fleeing in a stolen vehicle earlier this week.

Hours later, the manhunt shifted about 25 miles (40 kilometers) to the north, to the city of Madison, where Sills said the two men burglarized a house and then two men fitting their descriptions were reportedly seen in a Family Dollar store less than a mile away.

The reward fund now stands at $130,000 for the arrest and capture of Donnie Russell Rowe and Ricky Dubose, who were still on the loose Thursday as a multi-state manhunt continued.

Authorities say they have captured two escaped inmates wanted in the slayings of two Georgia prison guards.

"They murdered two correctional officers", said Sills. Monica had worked for the facility for almost eight years after being hired in October of 2009.

The escapees have ties to northeast Georgia and Tennessee, but they could be anywhere, he said.

Monica, 42, and Billue, 58, are being remembered as having had an "unwavering commitment to their job and their love of family".

Sills praised the law enforcement response as "the greatest effort I've ever seen". The FBI had asked for the public's help, calling the search expanding.

Sills wouldn't comment on whether the other 31 inmates left locked inside the bus with the slain guards' bodies revealed how the escapees managed to get out of the secure compartment.

"Almost every single day we read about how a police or correction officer is killed or seriously injured while protecting our communities". Authorities are asking the public to keep an eye out for the stolen 2008 white Ford F250 pickup truck with the Georgia tag BCX-5372. Nearly every single day we read about how a police or correction officer is killed or seriously injured while protecting our communities. Dubose was serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery, aggravated assault and theft from a 2014 case. 11Alive has a crew on the way to the scene to gather more details.

The escaped inmates left the vehicle and fled on foot in the area.

They all say the pressure will not ease. Sills says authorities aren't sure where they went after that, but he suspects they're no longer in the Madison area.
