Fakhar, Amir script India's downfall as Pakistan lift Champions Trophy

Fakhar, Amir script India's downfall as Pakistan lift Champions Trophy

India won the toss and opted to bowl against their arch-rivals Pakistan in the high-octane final of the Champions Trophy at the Kennington Oval here on Sunday.

With the bat in hand, India found themselves under early pressure after losing both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for just 6 runs.

Earlier, Fakhar Zaman's maiden one-day worldwide hundred was the cornerstone of Pakistan's 338-4.

Together with Azhar Ali (59), he put on 128 for the first wicket - Pakistan's highest opening stand against India in an ICC tournament - and it took a run out to separate them as Fakhar was guilty of ball-watching.

This is Pakistan's first ICC title triumph since their 2009 World Twenty20 win but more importantly it broke the jinx of not performing against India in big ticket matches.

Pakistan, who were termed dark horses at the beginning of the tournament, showed a spectacular performance as India stars Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh failed. Pandya (76 off 43 balls) was dealing in boundaries at that point, having already hammered six sixes and four fours. "They can upset anyone on their day", said Kohli in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Amir struck just three balls into India's reply when, after bowling two outswingers to Sharma, he had him lbw with a superb inswinger.

"Fakhar is a great impact player, he played like a champion batsman. I took my time to begin with, you look at the wicket, and then play your natural game".

There also are concerns that airlines would dominate the private-company board and limit access to airports by business jets. Trump's plan would also eliminate taxes on airline passengers in favor of a system of user fees.

As far as Playing XI is concerned, India are going with the same team that registered a nine-wicket win over Bangladesh in the semi-finals.

Pakistan's players celebrate their victory over India on the pitch after the ICC Champions Trophy final cricket match between India and Pakistan at The Oval in London on June 18, 2017.

The momentum remained with Pakistan as Mohammad Hafeez pummelled three sixes and four fours, putting on an unbroken 71 with Imad Wasim (25no) who enjoyed a remarkable slice of luck when a delivery from Bumrah bounced forcefully off his wicket without dislodging a bail.

The Golden Ball victor said it was his goal to become the best bowler after Pakistan's tour of West Indies and noted his most memorable wicket was that of England skipper in the semi-final.

Zaman's 114 led Pakistan to a commendable 338 for 4, which they defended successfully. Chasing a challenging total of 339 runs, India bowed down before the Pakistani bowlers and got all out for mere 158 runs in 33.3 overs.

But Pakistan skipper Ahmed said that his team never lost confidence even after the drubbing by India to open the Champions Trophy tournament.

He would have been run out for one if Kedar Jadhav's throw from cover had hit and he was caught behind off a Bumrah no-ball on three. But the more consistent you get in learning from games like this, it s better for the team in the future.
