Trump again suggests ending White House briefings, won't commit to Spicer

David Axelrod, former guru to President Barack Obama, summed up the problem when he told the New York Times, "The most hazardous duty in Washington these days is that of a Trump surrogate". Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said his panel or another committee would "absolutely" subpoena the tapes. "According to a close associate of Mr. Comey, he is willing to testify, but wants it to be in public", wrote Peter Baker and Michael D. Shear. "The credibility gap between the Trump administration and the American people continues to grow each day with each new revelation", he said. "It was all him", Spicer told reporters.

Donald Trump, frustrated with leaks from his communications team, is now possibly looking to replace them with producers and a host from television station Fox News.

Trump also tweeted Friday morning that "maybe the best thing to do would be to cancel all future "press briefings" and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy", a remark he made after contradicting his press aides and other surrogates on his reasons for ousting Comey. Comey's last-minute announcement that the FBI had reopened the email investigation delivered a blow to her presidential campaign and Clinton herself has said that Trump benefitted from Comey's intervention in the campaign. "And in fact when I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won".

Regardless of the recommendation, I was going to fire Comey. His testimony during the past week before Congress - so flawed at one point that the Justice Department had to issue a correction - clearly prompted Trump to decide the time to fire Comey had come. It initially cited a Justice Department memo criticizing Comey's handling of last year's investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails as the impetus, only to have that version undercut by Trump himself.

"He said he got a report from the number two over at the attorney general's office laying out why James Comey should probably depart", McCarthy told Kern Radio on Wednesday. "I'm moving on", Spicer said.

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., quickly spoke out against President Donald Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey.

I asked Rosenstein and Sessions to look into it. Rosenstein sent me a memo.

Nevertheless, the timing and context of Comey's dismissal are extremely suspicious. Also, his memo did not explicitly recommend that Trump fire the Federal Bureau of Investigation chief.

But the President said it is "very important" to him that the question of Russian meddling in the election is resolved.

The White House had no immediate comment.

Rogers is the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

"We don't have press conferences", Trump said.
