Man shot by police after striking officer dies

An Arlington County police officer was hit by the suspect they pulled over, the department reported Wednesday evening.

Authorities say the shooting occurred about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday when officers pulled over a vehicle on Interstate 395 in the D.C. suburb of Arlington, Virginia. Boak wouldn't stop and he maneuvered around officers to continue south on the highway, Savage said. A second officer shot the driver.

Officers caught with up the truck Boak was driving on an offramp to Glebe Road. When the vehicle hit heavy traffic, officers approached the vehicle.

One officer has serious injuries and medics treated another officer on the scene, police say.

Boak was traveling southbound side of Interstate 395 in Arlington at about 4:30 p.m. when police noticed from a license plate reader that the truck belonged to a wanted suspect. He was taken to Virginia Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
